Like many other regions around the world, Corfu is not immune to the threat of wildfires, especially during periods of prolonged dry weather and high temperatures.
The Fire Department forces are making heroic efforts to contain the fire front that broke out on Sunday afternoon 23rd July 2023 with different points in the Peritheia region in northern Corfu.
According to information from the Fire Department, the fire is burning forest and grassland areas, moving southeastward.

So far, the settlements of Santa, Megula, Porta, Old Peritheia, Sinies, Vinglatouri, Nisaki, Rou, Katovalos, Kentroma, Trichi, Kokkokylas, Sarakiniatika, Plagia, Kalami, Vlachatika, and Kavalleraina have been evacuated.
